Rediscovering the Gateway Arch: A Photographer's Journey
A Nostalgic Return to St. Louis
As a photographer, there's nothing quite like capturing the essence of iconic landmarks. On our way back from California in the spring of 2023, my wife and I made a memorable stop in St. Louis, Missouri. Our journey along Route 66 was filled with incredible sights, from classic cars and stunning rock formations to historic buildings that inspired the movie "Cars."
Capturing the Iconic Gateway Arch
One of the highlights of our trip was spending four days in St. Louis, where I had the opportunity to photograph the magnificent Gateway Arch. This 630-foot-tall monument, a symbol of westward expansion, stands proudly in the heart of the city. The Arch's sleek, stainless-steel design and its towering presence make it a photographer's dream.
A Family Adventure Revisited
Our visit to the Gateway Arch was particularly nostalgic, as we had taken our kids to the park in the early 2000s and rode to the top of the Arch. It was neat getting to visit the area again and see how it has changed over the years.
From Route 66 to the Heart of St. Louis
During our stay, we explored various angles and perspectives of the Arch, capturing its grandeur against the backdrop of the city skyline. The experience was truly exhilarating, and I was able to capture some stunning images that encapsulate the spirit of St. Louis.

Transforming Memories into Puzzles
One of my favorite photos from this trip has been transformed into a 1000-piece puzzle, now available under my brand, MI Puzzles, from Phil Stagg Photography. This puzzle not only offers a fun and challenging activity but also allows you to appreciate the beauty of the Gateway Arch piece by piece.
My journey along Route 66 and my time in St. Louis were unforgettable. The diverse landscapes, the rich history, and the vibrant culture I encountered along the way made this trip a true adventure. I hope that through my photography, I can share a glimpse of the magic my wife and I experienced with others.
